Mainstage: Bringing It All Back
Filed under: Shows, Announcements, Press, News

Hello, hello, hello!

The spring semester is starting out with a bang, and Theatre Strike Force is bringing you the cherry to top off this sundae of badassery.

Many moons ago, TSF had a show called Mainstage. This show was it: the bomb, the best of the best, the rolicking good time that made people cream their seats. Unfortunately, circumstances beyond our control caused us to lose this great opportunity. However, years (seriously...three years) of hard work, a few batted eyelashes and quite possibly something Katie is not proud of, we GOT IT BACK!

TSF is bringing it ALL back to you. As opposed to withholding some of it for ourselves to use while we cry over pints of Ben & Jerry's AmeriCone and watch Simpsons re-runs on a Friday night. WE GO OUT, OK?!

WHEN? FEB. 10-12 (THIS Thurs., Fri. and Sat. THREE NIGHTS OF FUNNY!) at 8 P.M. Get there early to get your ticket to get in because there is limited seating!
WHERE? The CONSTANS THEATRE mainstage, located in the theatre building directly across from the Reitz Union entrance in the Colonnade at the box office. Stand on the Colonnade and look at the first floor entrance. Turn 180 degrees. Walk that way.
WHAT? This show promises to be a smorgasbord of all the great things TSF has to offer in a theatre setting and TWO ACTS: the first act is the Short Form Team and TSF Sketch, the second features two versions of The Sunday Group doing the form they plan on bringing to Chicago for the College Improv Tournament (CIT) and then the special super Spring 2011 Sunday Group performing an Armando Diaz.
HOW MUCH? FREE. SO FREE. MORE FREE THAN YOU COULD HAVE EVER DREAMED IT WOULD BE.
WHY? Because we f*cking can!

Look out for us in Turlington Plaza, Plaza of the Americas and the Reitz Union Colonnade promoting our asses off all this week. We've got some saucy tricks up our sleeve, Gators.

College Improv Tournament

Hey Gators,

Your local improv superstars, the Sunday Group, are traveling to Chicago to compete in the final rounds of the national College Improv Tournament this Saturday!

More than 60 teams from 25 states fought for domination in regional rounds this past fall. TSF's Sunday Group emerged victorious in Atlanta and is pumped to represent UF at the championships.

The gang left Gainesville this afternoon and would love to have a ton of support from their fans! If you want to show support, please leave some kind words on their Facebook group page:here.

How can YOU watch their performance?
If you're in Gainesville, TSF will be having a viewing party at 6pm in Weimer Auditorium. There'll be pizza, a giant projector screen and a bunch of good friends to watch with. Come on out!

If you're not in town, the performances will be streamed live from the CIT Web site here: http://www.chicagoimprovfestival.org/web/ccc_webcast.php. The CIT National playoff matches are at 1pm, 3pm, and 5pm (CST) and the CIT National championship title match is at 10pm (CST). Sunday Group's slot is at 5pm (central time).
With Ustream's webcast abilities, when you watch, you'll be able to chat with each other during the webcast and connect with improvisers from around the country also.

Cheer on Theatre Strike Force as it competes to bring the University of Florida yet another national title!

Oppie's Friend, Gene

It's been a big two weeks in our TSF world.

Our TV show for campus, officially titled "Oppie's Friend, Gene", is now being aired into your over-priced, under-spaced resident halls every Friday, Sunday and Tuesday at 8:30pm on channel 8! Bunk-bed-eriffic!

For the television premier, we all gathered around the big screen in the Keys recreation area. Coincidentally, the Keys resident hall was the location of the production's first shoot. Sock-on-the-door-errific!!

AND, if you don't live in a resident hall: IT'S ONLINE!

A huge special thanks to UF's IRHA for making this all possible. If you like the show, let 'em know!

Truly princes of our time. Eriffic.

TSF is Gary
Filed under: Improv, UF, Shows, Announcements, Things that are Awesome, Press, Our Videos, News

Hey there! At the height of a hotly contested election season, Theatre Strike Force would like to announce its endorsement of Gary for President in 2008!

Finally, a candidate who knows how to connect with the American people. Gary is the only person in America who knows what America really wants. He's a lunch tray full of all your favorite foods. You can hold on to the cake, Lunch Lady Liberty -- we got bowl-full of icing.

We couldn't be more excited about this guy, and neither can a growing number of Americans, according to an article in the Independent Florda Alligator. Gary has literally made his mark on UF campus. He's cozied with students in their dorm rooms via inspiring TV spots. Gary enthusiasts have rallied in Turlington Plaza shouting their support of the candidate America has been waiting for.

As a climax to this exciting campaign, TSF will be presenting a political rally in support of Gary this Monday, Oct. 27, at 9 p.m. in the Reitz Union Rion Ballroom. Join us for a night of special guest speakers, inspirational videos, and a rousing speech by the messiah himself.

Political comedy, folks. It's in. The truth makes everything funnier. Scarier, but funnier.

We'll see you Monday night. We are Gary.

Erik Voss is the president of Theatre Strike Force. He lies to his mom about getting bullied at school because he's ashamed.

When the cold opening can't get hotter
Filed under: Improv, UF, Shows, Behind the Scenes, Look, We Found Funny, The Internets, Press, Our Videos

Hey everyone,

What a time for strong openings!

A few weeks ago in Beijing, American Olympic athlete Lolo Jones got off to an early lead in the women’s 100 meter hurdle, just to have her foot snag the second to last hurdle. The minor stumble cost her the gold medal.

Back in June, Sen. Barack Obama’s numbers were soaring in the polls after he clinched the Democratic nomination. Now, he’s bogged down trying to explain what he meant by “lipstick on a pig.”

On that same note, two weekends ago saw the return of two live comedy shows that had strong openings and mediocre follow-ups. Luckily, in the world of live comedy, audiences are surprisingly optimistic. One solid joke can save a good backrub’s worth of eye-rolls. And if you catch them at the start, they’re more willing to wade through the muck with you.

TSF Eats Moe Than You
Filed under: Fundraisers, Behind the Scenes, Tips on How to Live a Life, Press, News

This past Saturday, TSF was represented by 3 different teams at the Moe's Burrito Eating Contest. The teams ("EMoe's," "Team Chris Mullet," and "Theatre Strike Force") were mostly competing against themselves, as the fastest player on each team to eat 3 Moo Moo Mr. Cow burritos, won Free Burritos for a Year.
While all the members of the EMoe's and Team Chris Mullet were in it to win it, Team Theatre Strike Force did what it does best and rigged their own competition in order to guarantee team member, Filup Molina, free burritos for a year. Molina, a too old to still be in school TSF member, recently paid his way back into UF and wiped out his bank account in the process. TSF was there for him and have guaranteed that he will die young and obese, but with his appetite fully satiated.

Filup represented Strike Force well by placing fourth overall out of 150 contestants.

Check out the article I wrote about it for my reporting class:

The best part about losing on purpose is how badly you get to do it.

Win a Date with Tad Hamilton*
Filed under: Fundraisers, I Wonder What She's Thinking, Press

*TSF reserves the right to produce a Tad Hamilton equivalent. Most likely Erik Voss.
date auction

Theatre Strike Force likes to get its date on as much as anyone else... that's why this past February we held our 2nd TSF Date Auction. I'll add more to this later, but it was absolutely our most lucrative year yet.

In fact, TSF raised more money this year for its Relay For Life team than it ever has before.

Strike Force Strikes at Itself
Filed under: Improv, Shows, Behind the Scenes, Press

This past January, TSF hosted the "Rumble in the Swamp." A ComedySportz style Mainstage show, in which the troupe itself split into 2 opposing teams, seeking the coveted Improv Battle Belt(tm).

Audiences were used to our "Whose Line?" style, and couldn't believe it when we went all Wild 'N Out on each other. The difficulty believing it may have been because, unlike Nick Cannon's show, we did improv.

Obviously, a lot of the fun comes before we perform, during our Craze 'N Out Publicity Events(tm). The article catches us right during the Annual Pie-Eating Contest. That's right, we eat pies for sport. Join us.
